Today was a great day at the hospital. I’m exhausted after lots of patient care and a teaching session with my practicum students, but nothing could burst my bubble today. HR finalized the paperwork for a second child life specialist to join me! Yeah! I’ve been working by myself for the past five months, and I am so excited to have a collaborator again. I have lots of projects that I want to tackle, both big and small, that I haven’t had the time or energy to handle. I’ve been patting myself on the back for just keeping the wheels turning and meeting all of the basic job demands. I love my work, but it has been a challenging time and I feel glad to be moving forward with some help. It is going to feel so nice to have someone to share tasks, responsibilities, and the general craziness of the day. Plus, I can’t wait for all of the planning of more fun and adventurous things we can put together (messy play days, larger art activities, recruiting more volunteers). We’ll also be able to provide more emotional support to the families with the return of our parent support group. It had to go on the back burner for a while because I couldn’t sustain it by myself. I’m excited for the return of a few old things, the planning of new things, and the joy of expanding the care we can offer patients.
