Taking My Own Advice

quote1I attended a conference session, “Responding to Fear: Using Narrative Techniques to Empower Patients and Families”, and it was a great reminder of the therapeutic power of storytelling.  As part of the session, the presenters asked us to remember what it felt like to start out as a new child life specialist and write down a tip or bit of advice to share.  This really got me thinking about what helped me on the hard days and what I needed to be present in my work.  What began as thoughts for my younger self resulted in words I want to take to heart now. What advice would you share with your newbie self? What do you want to remember today?

Thoughtful post – it’s good to remember that we are always newbies at something, no matter where we are in life.
